Each year in February, most, if not all Canadian cities proudly support events and exhibits honouring Black History Month, while inviting the public to explore and celebrate the heritage traditions and cultures of African Canadians. We are taking this opportunity to highlight the same within our Annual Black History Basketball Tournament.
One of the key elements of this Annual Black History Basketball Tournament is to promote unity, integration, interaction and celebrate the various gifts and talents we see on the courts. We are overwhelmed by the tremendous success of our boys and girls, and we have seen first-hand, an abundance of respect amongst players and officials which has brought a sense of family to this event. The relationships built between our participants during the events, last longer and become stronger over time. It’s our goal to use basketball as a tool to come together as a community.
While the sport of basketball often presents itself as diverse, the reality is that work remains to be done to remove many barriers both visible and invisible which impact one’s ability to turn dreams into reality. CM Sports remains committed to elevating the voices of black Canadian basketball players. We will also continue to educate, recognize, and celebrate the origins, challenges, and success of black Canadian players across all aspects in the sport of basketball.
